Trichocereus pachanoi
The San Pedro cactus is the name
given to the species of the genus Trichocereus (T.
pachanoi, T. peruvianus and T. Terscheckii and T.
bridgesii) which comprises about thirty species,
mainly found in the Andes. It is a large columnar
cactus that grows up to heights of twenty feet. This
cactus is easy to grow. Comes viable and ready to
root. The San Pedro is most common and the most
popular cactus.
Used
traditionally by the indians in Peru for divinatory
purposes, now the cactus is sold as a reminder of a
dieing culture.
Preserve a dieing culture and grow a pachanoi cactus

These
are live cuttings of
Trichocereus pachanoi cactus. These are fresh cut
cactus in various weights and diameters. Weights
range from 1.5 - 3.5 pounds.
Diameters range from 3 - 5 inches and sometimes
larger.

Grows over a foot a year. Easy
to root from a cutting.
Roll up the cactus in a
newspaper and spray the newspaper
lightly every other day for a couple weeks. The
cactus will start to search for water by growing
roots and will lengthen and grow pups to start to
look for light. It will wick up the water as it
needs it. It does not require much water to spark
this cactus to produce roots. Sometimes just a humid
atmosphere will do it. These guys want to live! You
can even merely spray the cactus and newspaper with
water daily or ever other day. Just a hint of water
will work. After you see the pups you can break them
off and place the base in soil. And you can then
plant the original cutting to root as well.
Another way to make root is to
place a wet newspaper over the area you want roots
to appear. Leave in a dim room and wait for a couple
weeks.
Make sure to keep the
newspaper damp but not wet. And if you live iin a
humid area, you need not dampen the newspaper.
Soon
roots will appear. Plant as above and watch it grow.
It grows fairly fast once roots establish.
